BANGOR – Carroll L. Earle, 90, died Feb. 1, 2009, at the Maine Veterans’ Home, Bangor. He was born April 27, 1918, in Weston, the son of Leon D. and Carrie (Moody) Earle. Carroll attended school in Danforth and the Maine School of Commerce, now Husson University. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was discharged Oct. 25, 1945, after serving in the United States and European Theatre for 45 months. He also served during the Korean War for 15 months in 1950-1951. Carroll was employed by Cole’s Express, Bangor and Aroostook Railroad and the state of Maine, from which he retired. He also worked part-time as an adjudication consultant for Gates McDonald Co. Carroll was a member of Essex Street Baptist Church for more than 50 years. He was a deacon emeritus and served as president, and was active on numerous boards and committees. He was a member of MSEA and Veterans’ of Foreign Wars Associations. Carroll was predeceased by his wife, Althea R. (Kimball) Earle; a son, Daniel C. Earle; a sister, Hilda Fitzpatrick; and two brothers, Donald Earle and Lawrence Earle. Surviving are a sister, Barbara H. Saulnier of Cheshire, Conn.; special nieces, Carolyn Snow and her husband, Richard, and Eldonna Murphy and her husband, Lawrence; special nephew, Dale Fitzpatrick; other nieces and nephews; and very special friends, Richard M. and Janet J. Stewart of Brewer. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Randall Wilbur, pastor of Essex Street Baptist Church, officiating. Relatives and friends are welcome to call noon until the time of service Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor.
