THORNDIKE – Our loving mother and best friend, Ruth Humsey Reid, passed away on Jan. 31, 2009, with her daughter and niece at her side. Her love, beauty and devotion will eternally remain in the hearts of her five surviving children, Greg, Mike, Bruce, Ray, and Susan and their respective families; and also dear and special friend, Marguerite. Mom’s defining passions included love of fun, always holding an ace in the hole, extraordinary sense of humor, crafting colorful braided rugs for friends and family, playing the piano for local senior citizens and at family gatherings. Always the constant gardener, she nurtured compassion, love and peace for harvest. Our loss is heaven’s gain with the homecoming of our beloved mother. She will be deeply missed by all who loved her and her memory will forever remain, closely guarded, in the depths of our hearts. In lieu of flowers, donations would be greatly appreciated, in memory of Ruth Reid, to Massachusetts General Hospital, Bigelow 13 (Burn Center), 55 Fruit St., Boston, MA, 02114. Graveside service date, at the Reid Farm, Thorndike, will be announced in the spring of 2009.
