BREWER – William F. Roberts passed away peacefully Feb. 4, 2009, at a Bangor hospital after a long, courageous battle with cancer. He was born Feb. 29, 1936, in Patten, the son of Frank W. and Alice (Greenier) Roberts. As a young man, he was in the U.S. Army. After his service in the Army, he worked for many years as a well-known carpenter and builder in the Bangor-Brewer area. During his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with family, geneology searches and exploring new places in Northern Maine. He especially enjoyed his annual camping trips to the Blue Hill Fair. He is survived by his friend and fiancee of 26 years, Louise Giddings of Brewer, who provided special care for him during his illness; a son, Mark Roberts and wife, Maddy, of Orrington; a daughter, Melanie Gray and husband, Christopher, of Bangor; a sister, Evelyn Roberts of Bangor; and his grandchildren, Sarah Roberts of Eureka, Calif., Joshua Roberts of Trenton, Matthew Gray of San Diego and Zane Gray of Bangor. Bill will be missed by his faithful poodle, Midnight. He was predeceased by his parents; two sisters, Rosemarie Mills and Annie Roberts; and lifelong friend, Skip Eldridge. The family thanks Eastern Maine Hospice for the care given to Bill during his illness. Relatives and friends may visit 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor, where a funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8, with the Rev. Robert Carlson, presiding. Friends are invited for a time of fellowship and refreshments immediately afterward at St. Teresa’s Parish Center, 436 South Main St., Brewer.
