GLENBURN – James Eugene DeWitt, 47, died Feb. 9, 2009, at a Bangor health care facility, after a long, courageous battle with Lou Gehrig’s disease. He was born Dec. 4, 1961, in Bangor. Jim worked at Cappy’s, Rawlins, Wyo., for 15 years as a chef. He also worked locally for Asplundh for several years before his poor health. Jim loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He could play the drums with precision and was an absolute pro in making flies for fisherman. Jim was dearly loved and will be missed by his family and many friends. He is survived by two sons, Cody A. DeWitt of Montana and James A. DeWitt of Eddington; his loving mother and stepfather, Marlana Buckley and husband, Bruce, of Glenburn; companion and sweetheart, Jayne Alley of Kenduskeag; four brothers, Scott A. DeWitt and wife, Lori, of Corinth, Shane L. DeWitt and wife, Beth, of Glenburn, Randy E. DeWitt and wife, Sherry, of Stetson, and Kirt D. DeWitt and wife, Cookie, of Levant; a sister, Barbara J. Hopkins and husband, Robin, of Jonesboro, Tenn.; a special aunt, Marie Hatch; special friends, Crystal Farrow, Jamie Porter, Paul Bacon and Richard Kjelsrud; two nieces and six nephews, and many friends. He was predeceased by his father, James Edward DeWitt. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb 12, with Pastor Gregory DeBois, pastor of Glenburn Evangelical Covenant Church, officiating.
