BREWER and BUCKSPORT – Dorothy Eva (Annis) Ring, 80, went to be with the Lord Friday, Feb. 13, 2009, at a Bangor hospital. Dorothy was born Sept. 23, 1928, in Warwick, R.I., the daughter of Lawson and Alice (Ward) Annis. Her family lived on Conimicut Point until she was 10 and the hurricane of 1938 swept away the homes in that area. Her family then settled in Cranston, R.I., where she graduated from Cranston High School as a high honors business student in 1946. Her skills in shorthand and typing were so outstanding that she was allowed to leave school in the afternoons to work with a prestigious law firm in Providence, R.I. As a teenager she loved riding her bicycle with her cousins and her friends. They especially looked forward to the circus arriving in town by train and carrying water for the animals in exchange for free passes. Introduced to her future husband by her uncle, Dorothy married Daniel G. Ring, Oct. 23, 1948. She resided in Brunswick until 1955 when Dan’s work moved him to Hampden. After one year in Hampden they then chose to live in Bucksport, where she lived until 2003. She then moved to the Leach Home, Brewer, where she lived until fall 2008 when she moved to an assisted living facility in Bangor. In addition to her parents, Dorothy was predeceased by her loving husband in April 2003; and her sister, Ruth Cottrell. Dorothy continued to work at the law firm in Providence after her high school graduation. After her marriage she worked for Henry Baribeau’s Real Estate office. During the years she raised her three daughters, she was primarily a homemaker and a willing volunteer to work on school and church projects. She worked for the Bucksport School Department as a cafeteria worker and as a substitute teacher. She was employed at a law firm in Bangor for several years and then she finished her secretarial career at Champion Paper Co., Bucksport. She is survived by her three daughters, Gloria Bray of Brunswick, Barbara Ring of Brewer and Nancy Henson and her husband, Terry Henson, of Jacksonville, Fla; three beloved grandchildren, Ryan Henson and his wife, Kendra, of Jacksonville, Fla., Matthew Bray and his fiancee, Krystal Loucka, of Auburn and Tara Henson and her fiance, Jason Peterson, of Jacksonville, Fla.; brother-in-law, Howard Cottrell; and two nephews. A graveside service will be held in the spring at Riverview Cemetery, Bucksport. Those wishing to remember Dorothy in a special way may make gifts her memory to Manna Ministries, 629 Main St., Bangor, ME 04401.
