LEVANT – Douglas A. Beckwith, 67, passed away peacefully Feb. 13, 2009, with his wife and family by his side, at home after a long, courageous battle with cancer. He was born Sept. 10, 1941, in Barre, Mass., son of the late Fabius and Thelma Beckwith. Doug served in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1965. He worked all his life as a gifted carpenter and owner of D.A. Beckwith and Sons Construction, and was a lifetime member of the carpenter’s union. He enjoyed working in his woodworking shop and going to local craft fairs selling his prize possessions. He was predeceased by son, Michael Beckwith, Jan. 26, 2009; and two brothers, Bradley and Wayne. He is survived by his wife of more than 28 years, Grace E. (Stillings); daughters, Wendy Trojano and husband, Henry, and Suzette Haskins and husband, Melvin, all of Levant; son, Bradford Snow of New York; sister, Virginia Fanning and husband, Patrick, of Spencer, Mass.; 10 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Mary Beckwith of Bangor. The family gives a special thanks to CancerCare of Maine and Dr. Thomas Openshaw, and New Hope Hospice. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
