BANGOR – Frederick “Fred” O. Pratt III, 70, died Feb. 17, 2009, surrounded by family at his home. He was born June 17, 1938, in Millinocket, to Frederick O. Pratt Jr. and Nellie (McQuarrie) Pratt. Fred graduated from Schenck High School, East Millinocket, in 1956. He attended radio and acting schools in Boston and New York and received a Bachelor of Arts in education from the University of Maine in 1968. Other than a brief time as an educator, Fred developed a 40-year career in radio and television, first on the air as an announcer and television personality, and subsequently as an advertising executive and owner of advertising and consulting agencies. Although most people didn’t know who he was when they saw him, they instantly recognized his voice when they heard him. He was an avid reader, a creative thinker, hilariously funny, loyal to a fault, a writer of music, prose and poetry, a singer, musician, and a loving father and husband. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Dorothy LeVasseur Pratt; five children, Corry Pratt and her partner, Robin Fowler, of Unity, Neal and Larissa Pratt of Scarborough, Joseph and Rebecca Pratt of Bangor, Michael and Marlo Pratt of Lumberton, N.J., and Paul Pratt of Kennebunk; grandchildren, Shawn and Aaron Dennis of Bangor, Megan and Chelsea Pratt of Bangor, Morgan and Charlotte Pratt of Scarborough, Connor and Hailey Pratt of Lumberton, N.J.; two sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law, Ingrid LeVasseur of Windham and Pauline LeVasseur Couture and Richard Couture of Freeport; two special nieces, Katahli Stieg and Yelani Stieg of Windham; several cousins; and his faithful dog, Tucker. He was predeceased by his parents. The family is grateful for the kind and loving support of New Hope Hospice of Eddington. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 6-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where a service of remembrance celebrating Fred’s life will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, with the Rev. Pam Gross officiating. Interment will be private. After the service relatives and friends are welcome to share conversation and refreshments at Brookings-Smith Family Center, 163 Center St., Bangor.
