BELFAST – Mary Jeanette Staples passed away Feb. 19, 2009, at a local health care facility. She was born July 23, 1923, on Swans Island, the daughter of George and Iris (Hamblen) Withee. Jeanette married the late Alfred Staples, July 4, 1942, in Belfast. She worked at various jobs in Belfast, but most notably as a pharmacy technician at Gould’s Drug Store and Brooks Drug, until her retirement. Jeanette and Alfred are survived by their two children and their families, Mary Gilman and husband, Darrell, of Belfast and Michael Staples of Winterport. Her grandchildren include Cory and Jill Morse of Belfast, Ryan and Becky Morse of Vassalboro, Evan and Kim Morse of Islesboro, Joshua Staples of South Lake Tahoe, Calif., and Jessie Staples of Jacksonville, Fla.; and great-grandchildren, Aisling, Skyler, Brendon, Joey and Bellamy. She is survived by her brothers, Norman Withee and wife, Joyce, of Searsmont and Leon Conary and partner, John McGarvey, of Winter Haven, Fla.; a sister, Alice Gross and husband, Owen, of Stonington; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Janice Cole and husband, Lawrence, of Deer Isle. Friends and family are invited 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, to the home of Mary and Darrell Gilman, 12 Alto St., Belfast.
