ROQUE BLUFFS – Ora Susan Preston passed away peacefully Feb. 21, 2009, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born May 20, 1940, in St. Stephens, New Brunswick. She attended schools in Calais and Washington State College. There she met and married John Robert Preston, enjoying 46 years of love and friendship. The couple taught public school around Maine before returning to Calais, where Ora taught at Woodland Elementary School for 32 years. She was an enthusiastic, compassionate and inspirational teacher. Ora loved people; her dog, Toby; and the Red Sox, especially “Yaz.” Every Fourth of July family and friends could think of no other place to be than at “The Cottage.” Ora was predeceased by her beloved parents, Homer and Dorothy Berry. Ora will be deeply and sadly missed by her husband, John; her daughters, Kristy Sue Elsemore and her husband, Terry, and Kelly Ann Preston; her five grandchildren; brothers, Maj. Gen. Peter T. Berry, retired, and his wife, Gail, and family, and Dale Berry and his wife, Delores, and family, in addition to numerous other family members and friends. Words cannot express the grief of our loss, but her legacy will live on in the lives of those she touched. At Ora’s request, a private Christian ceremony on the beach at “The Cottage” in Roque Bluffs will take place in the spring, led by her devoted friend, Deacon Gail White. “Rest in peace. We love you.”
