ORLAND – Philip C. Gross, 79, died Feb. 24, 2009, at a Bangor hospital. He was born June 9, 1929, in East Bucksport, the son of Arthur and Dora (Billings) Gross. He attended Bucksport schools and worked for the State of Maine Department of Transportation for 40 years. Philip loved spending time with family, celebrating birthdays and holidays, fishing at Roach Pond with his brother-in-law, snowmobiling and his John Deere tractor. He belonged to the Family Snowmobile Club for many years and was a lifetime member of the Bucksmills Rod and Gun Club. He was a beloved husband and father, survived by his wife of 55 years, Phyllis (Miller) Gross of Orland; daughters, Connie Bishop and husband, Timothy, and Audrey Mullins and husband, Joseph; grandchildren, Rebecca Coombs, Shawn Fish and partner, Melissa, and Stephanie Allen and husband, Destin; great-grandchildren, Mason Dunham, Amaisie and Weston Allen; sisters-in-law, Alice Gross, Virginia Gross, Dorothy Moody, Pearl Bennett and Maurine Kimball; and brother-in-law, Paul Miller and wife, Pat. He was predeceased by four brothers, Maynard, Russell, Clifford and Earl; sister, Dorothy Bowden; and grandchildren, Christopher and Allayn Hendricks. Visiting hours will be held 6-7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, at Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday with Peter Remick officiating. Spring interment will be at Hillside Cemetery, Bucksport. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to East Bucksport United Methodist Church, care of Joyce Johnson, P.O.
