BANGOR – Eleanor Sweeney Grondin, wife of the late Jean Maurice Grondin, loving husband of 30 years, died Feb. 27, 2009, at a local health care facility. She was born in Bangor, the daughter Arthur W. and Alice (Mitchell) Sweeney. Eleanor graduated from Bangor High School, Class of 1938. She was a lifelong member of Order of the Eastern Star, Tuscan Chapter, Bangor, and Mayflower Society. Eleanor was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church Parish. She worked for many years at the University of Maine as a library clerk. She is survived by a son, Nick Bearce; two grandchildren, Nicholas Bearce and Alice Bearce; two great-grandchildren, Laura and Elizabeth Bearce; two nieces and four nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her son, Arthur Bearce; her sister, Marguerite McKeen; and her brother, Charles I. Sweeney, Friends are invited to visit with the family 5-7 p.m. Monday, March 2, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 3, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 754 Ohio St., Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments in the church parish hall after the service.
