Spring hasn’t quite sprung, but we do set the clocks ahead this weekend and that means it’s just around the corner, along with an all-new reality lineup.

Before we get to that, I must first thank all of you for the wonderful comments and e-mails about last week’s column regarding the Pelletier family and “American Loggers.”

One e-mail in particular struck me and I promised to add this week that the logging industry isn’t all about men. As a gal who likes to get her hands dirty when she’s not writing or watching TV with The Man on the Couch, I should have made this point much earlier. There are strong women in Maine and beyond who put their lives on the line in the woods every day cutting timber, clearing roads, loading trucks and driving logs to their destination.

That said, keep watching the Pelletiers and keep the feedback coming.

Now for what’s new.

I realize that all of you aren’t wrapped up in the drama that often is reality TV, so here’s something a little different being put out by the History Channel.

While it doesn’t fall exactly within the definition of reality TV, “Battles BC” is a highly graphic, highly technical production that shows how military strategies used thousands of years ago are still analyzed and used today.

The show kicks off at 9 p.m. Monday, March 9, with “Hannibal: The Annihilator,” about the Carthaginian military commander whose attacks on Roman soil nearly ruined the soon-to-be empire.

It’s on a little late and probably a good thing because it might not be the best one to watch with children in the room. There’s sure to be lots of bloodshed and gore.

War is also the theme for another History Channel premiere, “Warriors.”

Green Beret Terry Schappert brings the camera crew along as he travels the world to experience the training, rituals and weapons of history’s iconic warrior cultures, including the vikings, samurai and barbarians.

Looking for something a little less violent? You’ll have to wait a few months, but hip-hop legend and 2009 Rock ’n’ Roll Hall of Famer DMC (Darryl McDaniels) is working on a new series titled “The Kings of Rap.”

Still in development, the show puts a positive twist on the sometimes racy rap world that gives aspiring musicians the chance to earn a record deal. I have a feeling it will be kind of like “American Idol,” but with a little more edge.

The artists must create their own music and can’t glorify violence, degrade women or use profanity. I’ll keep you posted on an air date.
