NORTHEAST HARBOR – Phyllis Mae (Gray) Chase, 76, a lifelong resident of Northeast Harbor passed away peacefully Thursday, March 5, 2009, at a Bangor hospital after a short illness. She was born Feb. 21, 1933, in Northeast Harbor, to Albert and Jennie (Walls) Gray. Phyllis graduated in 1951 from Gilman High School. She enjoyed the many summers that her grandson, Christian Fitzharris, in Northeast Harbor with her throughout the years. She was very fond of watching her two granddaughters, Meghan and Stephanie Chase, grow to achieve their goals. She also enjoyed going down to Sea Street to watch the boats, as well as her weekly lunches in Ellsworth. Phyllis worked in summer homes through the years for many summer residents; her favorite employer and friend was the Dr. Michael and Julie Crofoot family. Phyllis is survived by her husband of 58 years, Ronald J. Chase Sr.; her daughter, Julie Chase Donohue and Michael J. Donohue III of Los Gatos, Calif.; her son, Ronald J. Chase Jr. and Debbie Chase of Bangor; and her grandchildren, Christian Fitzharris, Meghan Chase, Stephanie Chase, Michael J. Donohue V and Stephen Donohue. She is also survived by her brother, Albert Gray and his wife, Barbara, of LaGrange, Ga.; her sister-in-law, Frances and Rodick Gray; special nephews, Douglass “Scamp” Gray Jr., Russell Gray, Lowell Chase Jr., Robert and Ruth Mitchell of Marietta, Ga.; niece, Kathy Chase Branch; as well as many nieces, nephews, wonderful neighbors and friends. She was predeceased by brothers, Everard “Tator” Gray and Douglass S. Gray Sr. Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, March 8, at Jordan-Fernald, 1139 Main St., Mount Desert.
