ROCHESTER, N.H. – Charlie Irving, 83, of Reagan Drive, died Sunday, March 8, 2009, at Rochester Manor after a brief illness. Born Feb. 24, 1926, in Salisbury, Mass., he was the son of the late Thomas and Julia (Eaton) Irving. In his youth, he lived in the Exeter, N.H., area. Mr. Irving had lived in Rochester, N.H., for nearly three years. He also lived in Ocala, Fla., Hodgdon and Plainville, Conn. He enjoyed outdoor activities, such as hunting and fishing, especially in the White Mountains. He was particularly fond of fishing for blue fish as well. He was very proud of the fact he worked in the lumber camps of northern New Hampshire and Maine as a young man. He was an avid reader. He was a master mason in the Plainville, Conn., Lodge of Masons and active in the Methodist Church, Hodgdon. Mr. Irving was a letter carrier in Plainville, Conn., and Granby, Conn., retiring from the Postal Service after 30 years. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Diana (Bates) Irving of Rochester, N.H.; his sons, Tom Irving and his wife, Maggie, of Windsor, Conn., Shaun Irving and his wife, Jennifer, of Winthrop, Mass., and Scott Whitaker and his wife, Lynn, of Torrington, Conn.; his grandchildren, Heather and Nicholas Irving, both of Plainville, Conn.; and his nephews, Bill Wilbur of Conway, N.H., and Dusty Wilbur of Farmington, N.H. He had several other nephews and many friends. He was predeceased by his brother, Edward; and his sisters, Mary and Barbara. There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., Rochester, N.H.
