EASTPORT – William L. Collins, 76, passed away Thursday, March 12, 2009, at his home. William was born March 1, 1933, in Eastport, son of the late John and Beulah (Danks) Collins. After graduating from Shead High School, Class of 1952, he entered the U.S. Navy, serving during the Korean War. William returned to Eastport working various jobs until his start at Guilford Industries, where he worked for more than 30 years. He was a member of Knights of Pythias Anchor Lodge No. 41, Eastport. William enjoyed traveling to Grand Lodge meetings and other meetings throughout Maine with his friend, Roland Mitchell. He also enjoyed umpiring Little League and other sports. In addition to his parents, William was predeceased by his wife, Agnes (Durant) Collins; and his brothers and sisters. Surviving are his children, Barbara Barnes and her husband, Jim, of Eastport and William Collins and his wife, Linda, of Hampden; four grandchildren, Jeff Frankland and his partner, Michael Doiron, of Salem, N.H., Nicole Barnes of Brewer, John Barnes and his companion, Pam Conley, of Eastport and Ross Collins of Pleasant Point; three great-grandchildren, Maleekah, Shaelyn and Ava; and his canine companion, Sheba. At William’s request, there will be no immediate visitation or funeral service. A memorial service will be held in early summer. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Homes, Calais and Eastport.
