BREWER – Eunice L. Leighton, 84, passed away quietly March 13, 2009, with her adoring family by her side at home. She was born Dec. 3, 1924, in Rockland, daughter of Salome and Orin Brooks Sr. Eunice grew up in Rockland and attended Rockland schools. She enjoyed playing Beano, going out to eat and watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up. Eunice was predeceased by all nine of her sisters and brothers. Most recently, she lost her son-in-law, Cliff Runnells, whom she adored. Eunice is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Donald; her daughters, Ann Runnells of Bangor and Sharon Allen and fianc?, Gary McLaughlin, of Bangor; her grandchildren, Sharon Harvey-Schinck and husband, Moe, of Brewer, Bill Bond and wife, Sue, of Kenduskeag, Donald Butler and wife, Angela, of Georgia, Steven Bond and his wife, Tammy, of Indiana, and Angel Allen of Bangor; two special “sisters,” Joanne Brooks of Brewer and Gladys Whitrock of St. Louis; her brother-in-law, Owen Leighton and wife, Donna, of Newport; 15 great-grandchildren, including Brad, Lexi, Joey, Micah and Kegan, whom she saw most often, and eight great-great-grandchildren. The family thanks our “Rocks of Gibraltar,” Joanne Brooks, Theresa Davis, Hospice of Eastern Maine and the cardiac caregivers at Eastern Maine Medical Center. All family and friends are invited to join us to celebrate and remember Eunice’s life 2-4 p.m. Friday, March 20, at Between Friends Center, Center Street, Brewer. A graveside service will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer, to be announced in the spring.
