FARMINGDALE – Hollis W. Fowler, 64, passed away peacefully March 15, 2009, with his family; special nurse, JoAnne; and best friend, Dennis, at his side at Togus VA Hospital, Augusta. He was born May 20, 1944, in Waterville, the son of Hollis and Winifred (Henderson) Fowler. “Rusty” was loved by many and always enjoyed being with his friends at Captain Lewis Residence, Farmingdale and at the morning coffee group at McDonald’s, as well as all his church friends. He was a lover of animals, especially his sister Bobbie’s dogs, Duke and Prince. “Rusty” was disabled in the Vietnam War and spent a lot of his time at Togus Hospital. He had many friends in the medical field and had excellent care by all of the Togus staff. He was predeceased by his parents; and a brother, Christopher. Holly is survived by his sisters, Valerie Goldberg and husband, Dr. Alan Goldberg, and Roberta Fowler; his “special” niece, Jennifer Kane; nephew, Joshua Goldberg; uncles, Leslie, Daniel and Harold; many cousins, especially Cathy and her husband, Bernie Lucas; special friends, Dennis Gilson, a wonderful friend for 39 years to “Rusty,” Helen and Al Henderson and Penny, Ralph and their son, Jake, who was dearly loved by Holly. His family thanks the doctors and nurses involved with his care in the Special Care Unit at Togus Veterans Hospital, especially Dr. Wiseman and nurses, Joanne and Jeff. Friends and relatives are invited to join in a celebration of life 1:30 p.m. March 28 at Gardiner Free Methodist Church with a fellowship time after the service. Military honors will be held 1 p.m. Friday, March 27, at the New Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta.
