Saint Joseph’s 16, SUNY-Cobleskill 2

At Winter Haven, Fla., Ben Grant Roy had three hits including a triple, an inside the park home run, and four RBIs to spark Saint Joseph’s College by SUNY-Colbeskill on Saturday. Sam Murray allowed four hits and one earned run over five innings to earn his first collegiate win. Wade Oliver and Daniel Achorn had two hits and two RBIs apiece. Eric LaBatte hit a home run and a single while Chris Campbell posted two hits for the Monks.

Southern Maine wins two of three

At Farmingdale, N.Y., the University of Southern Maine took two of three games over the weekend, defeating The College at Old Westbury 15-6 and dropping a 10-9 decision to Farmingdale State College on Saturday, and topping Albertus Magnus 5-1 on Sunday. In Saturday’s first game, Ryan Gaffney hit two home runs, including a grand slam, and drove in six runs for the Huskies. Mike Eaton had three hits including a home run and two RBIs. In Saturday’s second game, Farmingdale built up an 8-0 lead in the first inning en route to the win. Gaffney had two hits and drove in three runs for Southern Maine. Henry had two hits while Anthony D’Alfonso and Josh Mackey each had two RBIs. In Sunday’s game, Chris Burleson and Gaffney each hit a solo home run to spark the Huskies. Ryan Pike added a two-run double.

Saint Joseph’s wins three of four

At Fort Myers, Fla., Saint Joseph’s College earned a pair of wins on Saturday after splitting a Friday doubleheader. The Monks of Standish earned an 11-3 five-inning victory over Delaware Valley and a 6-5 win over Western New England College on Saturday. On Friday, Saint Joseph’s beat Fitchburg State 9-3 but lost 5-1 to Bowdoin. In Saturday’s first game, Kiera Walsh went four innings allowing one earned and four hits to earn the win for the Monks. Emily Leverone had three hits and an RBI while Samantha Gray posted two hits and four RBIs. In Saturday’s second game, Alysn Ludwig and Liz Jordan each notched three hits to lead Saint Joseph’s. Liddy van der Linden drove in three runs on two hits while Leverone added two hits and two RBIs for the Monks. In Friday’s first game, Walsh pitched seven innings allowing one earned and two hits with six strikeouts. Liz Jordan had three hits while Leverone had two hits and three RBIs for the Monks. In Friday’s second game, Clare Ronan hit two home runs to spark Bowdoin to victory. Shavonne Lord tallied three hits while Amy Hackett had two. Jillian Kimball and Leverone each had two hits for Saint Joseph’s.

MEN’S LACROSSE

Husson 14, Anna Maria 6

At Bangor, Ben Landry notched four goals and two assists Saturday to lead Husson University by Anna Maria College in the Eagles’ first game in program history. Nick Brown posted three goals and three assists while Anthony Diaz scored two goals and had three assists for Husson. Ryan Lapham chipped in with two goals for the Eagles. Sam Smith, Kyle Dwyer and Chris Lloyd notched one goal apiece for coach Jeremy Mattoon’s squad. Mike Saulnier scored two goals to pace Anna Maria.

East nips West in shootout

At Kennebec Ice Arena in Hallowell, Andrew Casey of John Bapst High in Bangor scored the decisive shootout goal as Eastern Maine edged Western Maine in the Class B Senior All-Star Game. Nicky Mitchell of John Bapst scored first-period goals 52 seconds apart to stake the East to a 3-0 lead. Nick Bourgoine of Winslow also scored in the first period. Casey Hull of John Bapst, Taylor Martin of Houlton-Hodgdon and Gardiner’s Peter Caradonna notched assists for the East. Jake Downey, Brian Allyn and Jesse Shavel, all of state champions Greely, scored the goals for the West squad. Kyle Selig, Peter Hoffman, Ryan Howland and Shavel, all of Greely, posted assists, as did Mike Holden of Cape Elizabeth. Three East goalies alternated between the two teams. Chris Howe of Gardiner made 22 saves on 22 shots, Tony Plourde of Gardiner had 21 stops on 23 shots and Orono’s Doug Dieuveuil registered 18 saves on 22 shots.
