CARMEL – Florence (Hibbard) Perry Sharpe, 92, passed away peacefully March 21, 2009, surrounded by family. She was born March 1, 1917, in Portland, the daughter of Eugene and Lillian (Pengelly) Hibbard. Florence was raised on the family farm in Etna and graduated from Bangor High School in 1935. She married Frank S. Perry later that year and moved to Carmel. She spent her career working as a cook at Auto Rest Park and area restaurants, retiring from food services at the University of Maine. Florence instilled the value of education as demonstrated by her children attaining college degrees. She was a prolific reader and also enjoyed doing needlework, cooking and baking, and keeping the tradition of making May baskets alive. Her happiest times were spent celebrating birthdays and holidays surrounded by family at her home, where she proudly lived independently until her final days. She is survived by her sister, Marjorie Eaton of Cape Porpoise; sister-in-law, Audrey Hibbard of Scarborough; four children, Barbara (Perry) Roberts of Orrington, her children and grandchildren, Mark and Laura Roberts and children, Clara and Lena of Fresno, Calif., and Hope (Roberts) and Paul Tormey and children, Abigail and Michael of Orrington; Douglas and Louise Perry of Rochester N.Y, and daughter and granddaughter, Lynne (Perry) and Tim Knittel and daughter, Emerson of Torrington, Conn.; Frank and Mary Perry of Carmel and children, and grandchildren, Suzanne (Perry) and Jim Thorne of Carmel and children, Tiffany, Jessica and grandson, Colby of Presque Isle, Amy (Perry) and Larry Wood and children, Marcus, Sarah, Savannah and Jesse of Riverview, Fla., and Justin Perry of Hampden; and Michael Perry and Carla Ritchie of Etna and Michael’s children and grandchildren, Ben Perry and son, Jacob, of Etna, Dan and Keri Perry of Greenwood, Ind., Katie (Perry) and Rick Perry and son, Dylan, of Orrington and Carla’s children, Emma Brejwo of Temecula, Calif., and Nathan Brejwo of Orono. Florence was predeceased by her first husband and father of her children, Frank S. Perry; her second husband, who she married later in life, Harry Sharpe; brothers, Irving, Merton and Lawrence Hibbard; and son-in-law, Keith Roberts. Family and friends may visit 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor, where a memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, March 26, with the Rev.
