ST. DAVID – Aurele Cote, beloved husband, father, brother and grandfather, died peacefully Sunday, March 22, 2009, at home, from complications of Lou Gehrig’s disease. He was born June 5, 1932, in St. David, to the late Lewis H. Cote and Annie (Cyr) Cote. Aurele graduated from Madawaska High School and attended Bentley College studying accounting. He was drafted in 1952 and served two years in the Korean War. He returned home to farm potatoes for more than 50 years and raised a family. Aurele was very active in his community. He was an active communicant of St. Gerard Parish, Grand Isle, and served many years on the parish council, finance committee, cluster committee and the church choir. He was a member of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus for more than 50 years, a Madawaska firefighter for more than 30 years and a legionnaire. He was happiest surrounded by his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Therese (Hebert) Cote; seven children, Michael and his wife, Yvette, of Bristol, Conn., Karen Bowling and her husband, Ernest, of Bangor, Kenneth and his wife, Pat, of Waldorf, Md., Dennis and his wife, Denise, of St. David, Steven and his wife, Tammy, of Madawaska, James of St. David, and Mark and his wife, April, of San Diego; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He also leaves behind 11 siblings, Normand and his wife, Rina, Gerard and his wife, Joyce, Rejeanne Touzot and her husband, Jean, Renald and his wife, Rose, Therese Brennan and her husband, Tony, Norma Protting and her husband, Joe, Marcella Sarnow and her husband, Stuart, Cecile Dobash and her husband, Joe, Mary Ann Rich and her husband, Bob, Kathleen Sirois and her husband, Don, and Carol Whitney and her husband, Bill; many nieces and nephews. Family and friends may call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, and 9 a.m. until the time of service Thursday, March 26, at Daigle Funeral Home, Madawaska. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, March 26, at St. Gerard Catholic Church, Grand Isle. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in memory of Aurele may be donated to St. Gerard Parish Memorial Fund. Envelopes available at the funeral home and church.
