BIDDEFORD – Pauline Rose McLain, 70, died Thursday, March 19, 2009, at her home. She was born March 28, 1938, in Vinalhaven, a daughter of Francis Everett and Lida Ruth Calahan Nash. Pauline was educated in Vinalhaven and Rockland schools. She married Pastor Joel A. McLain, Oct. 6, 1955, in Rockland. They came to Biddeford in 1982 to pastor Victory Chapel, Hill and Chapel streets, in Biddeford. She was an active pastor’s wife in the Victory Chapel congregation, working with youth and Vacation Bible School. She was also youth camp cook and Sunday school director. Pauline was also a member of Beulah Fellowship, Canterbury, N.H. A caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she enjoyed feeding people, knitting and sewing. In earlier years, she had canned 800 to 900 quarts of vegetables each year and made apple sauce and apple butter. She enjoyed being a mother of her six children and “mothered” many of her neighbor’s children as well. Her home was always open. Pauline was predeceased by her daughter, Sandra French, in 2001. Surviving are her husband, Pastor Joel McLain Sr. of Biddeford; four sons, Jeff McLain Sr. of Dixmont, Joel McLain Jr. and his wife, Robin, of Biddeford, Philip D. McLain Sr. and his wife, Brenda, of Arundel, and Timothy McLain and his wife, Marhon, of Biddeford; one daughter, Beatrix “Trixie” Tucci and her husband, Daniel, of Portland; a sister, Dorothy Hager of Lovell; and one uncle, Elroy Nash of Rockland. Visiting hours will be 7-9 p.m. Friday, March 27, at Hope Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, March 28, at Victory Chapel, 67 Hill St., Biddeford. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Biddeford, in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Pauline may be made to Hospice of Southern Maine, 180 U.S. Route 1, Scarborough, ME 04074. Arrangements are by Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford.
