OLD TOWN and MERRITT ISLAND, Fla. – Melvin “Jim” Howe, 78, passed away unexpect-edly March 26, 2009, in Florida. He was born May 17, 1930, in Old Town, the son of William and Elsie (Mossey) Howe. Jim attended Old Town schools, served in the U.S. Army, and was employed with and retired from P.C.F. He enjoyed his camp at Pushaw Lake, the Fourth of July parade, neighbors, friends, family and fishing with his son, Gary. Surviving are three children, Steven Howe and his wife, Kelly, Gary Howe and his life partner, Cindi Hooks, and Karen (Howe) Noyes and her husband, Michael; granddaughter, Kala (Howe) Goplerud and her husband, Matthew; a grandson, Brandon Noyes; a great-grandson, Kason Goplerud; two sisters, Ellen Tait and her husband, Larry, and Gloria Record; and two brothers, Walter Howe and his wife, Lillian, and Edmund Howe and his wife, Eleanor. Jim was predeceased by his beloved wife of 31 years, Sandra (Pooler) Howe; his brothers, William, Robert, Thomas, Stanley and Wallace; and one sister, Geneva LaFlamme. A graveside service at Lawndale Cemetery, Old Town, will be held later in the spring at a time to be announced. Arrangements by Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor.
