SHIRLEY – Dorothy P. Ashe, 91, died March 29, 2009, surrounded by her loving family. She was born Nov. 16, 1917, in Shirley, daughter of Frank and Viola (Rollins) Phillips. Dorothy graduated as salutatorian from Maine Central Institute, Pittsfield. She was an active member of Shirley Community Church. She raised her family on a dairy and potato farm, and was involved in many community activities. Dorothy worked as an assistant electrician at Dow Field during World War II, rewiring B-17 aircraft. She was secretary of the Piscataquis County Republican Party for many years. She served on the former SAD 2 School Board, representing Shirley for five years. Dot loved books, stars, poetry, botany, nature, cooking and berry picking. She was a loving mother to her children, their spouses and their families. She was predeceased by her husband, Westley S. Ashe Sr., in 1988. She is survived by three daughters and their husbands, Elizabeth and Jack Snow of Penobscot, Mary and Kirk Hinote of Bingham, and Jane and Scott Folsom of Hampden; a son and his wife, Westley and Eileen Ashe of Hinesburg, Vt.; a stepson and his wife, Floyd and Colleen Ashe of Shirley, and their families; grandchildren, Christine and Dana Black, Rebecca and Richard Lebel, Sheryl and Cecil Gray, Carol and Justin Carl, Kristina and Robert Meler, Felicia Hinote, Katherine Ashe, Daniel Ashe, Jacob Ashe, Leslie and Melinda Ashe, Randall Ashe, Timothy and Laurie Ashe; 17 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday, April 2, at the Greenville Chapel of Crosby & Neal, located at the Masonic Building, Greenville. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday at Shirley Community Church with the Rev. Dr. Everett Parker officiating.
