HOULTON – Ralph L. Williams Jr., 82, passed away Sunday, March 29, 2009, at a local hospital. He was born Feb. 14, 1927, in Houlton, the son of Ralph W. and Velma (Hamilton) Williams. Ralph was a graduate of Houlton High School. He was a member of Houlton Military Street Baptist Church, Houlton Grange, Subordinate Grange, the Maine State Grange and Houlton Odd Fellows, Rockabema Lodge No. 78. Ralph worked alongside his dad and brothers in the family business of R. W. Williams & Sons, milk business and raising potatoes. In 1969 Ralph went to work for the State of Maine in the Maine Department of Transportation crew, he retired in 1991. He will be remembered for his love of life and the ability to tell you a good long story. Always with a twinkle in his eye, he enjoyed visiting with people and talking with them. Ralph is survived by his wife, Betty (Brewer) Williams of Houlton; two daughters, Mary Lou Fowler and her husband, John, of Island Falls and Barbara Pettit and her husband, George, of Houlton; three very special granddaughters, Jennifer Fowler Thompson and her husband, Clint, of Brunswick, Joleen Fowler of New Glocester and Chelsey Pettit of Houlton; two great-grandsons, Kaleb and Collin Thompson of Brunswick; his sister, Carol Sewall of Brewer; his brother, Roy Williams of Hodgdon; brother-in-law, Jay Brewer; sister-in-law, Iona Nadeau; many special nieces and nephews. Ralph was predeceased by his parents, his sister, Phyllis Burns; and his brother, Paul Williams. Friends may call 11 a.m. until the time of service 1 p.m. Wednesday at Military Street Baptist Church with the Rev. Foster Williams officiating.
