GARDNER, Mass. – Verna P. (Merrithew) Hanson died April 29, 2009, at her home. She was born in Canterbury, New Brunswick, daughter of Levi and Edith (Estey) Merrithew. She moved to Pittsfield as a girl and later became a U.S. citizen. She graduated from Maine Central Institute in 1932. On June 16, 1946, she married Harry E. Hanson. In 1966, the family relocated to Gardner, Mass. Verna is survived by her daughters, Sharon Ringuette, Bonnie Jean Gulliver and Bonnie Chris LeBlanc; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Elizabeth Randall. She was predeceased by her husband, six sisters and three brothers. Graveside services will be held 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 6, at Village Cemetery, Pittsfield. www.stone-ladeau.com
