SACO – Elaine H. (Claridge) Woodard, 82, passed away Friday, April 24, 2009, with her family by her side at Seal Rock Healthcare, Saco. Elaine was born June 24, 1926, in Calais, the daughter of Donald E. and Christine (Fleming) Claridge. She attended and graduated from the Calais school system. She then served in the United Service Organizations – USO during Would War II and married her husband, Daniel “Danny” Woodard, July 18, 1947. Later she was employed in the finance office at Calais Memorial Hospital for many years, until they moved to Millinocket in 1967 and then to Bangor, where she was employed at Eastern Maine Medical Center until her retirement in 1988. She and Danny then moved to Leesburg, Fla., although they spent most summers in Maine or with their daughter in Springfield, Mass. They loved to travel and went on several cruises. They visited Hawaii, Germany and many other European countries. They enjoyed camping, being outdoors and spending time with family and friends. Elaine was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Daniel “Danny” Woodard in 2001; her brother, Edward Claridge in 1960; and a son-in-law, Dr. Lewis F. Pollak in 1996. She is survived by her son, Thomas D. Woodard and his wife, Shirley, of Tavares, Fla.; her daughter, Karen Littlefield and her husband, Richard, of Scarborough; and her two grandchildren, Sharene Woodard of Florida and Michael Nichols and his wife, Christie, of Arizona. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Phyllis Claridge; a niece, Carol Claridge Gardner and her son, Patrick; her nephew, Gerald Claridge; a cousin, Philip Ross and his wife, Mavis; many friends and family in Calais, Bangor and Leesburg, Fla., area. The family thanks the wonderful staff at Seal Rock Healthcare for their attentive care during the past two years and Beacon Hospice for their loving attention to Elaine and her family throughout the last several months. A service of remembrance will be held later this summer in Calais with a burial at Calais Cemetery. The time will be determined by the family. Arrangements are by Cote Funeral Home, Saco.
