BANGOR – Opal Lorraine Everett went home to be with her Lord and Savior, May 6, 2009, surrounded with love from her family at her home. Opal was born Aug. 26, 1925, in Washburn, the daughter of Stanley and Lucia (Whitten) Borden. She graduated from Washburn High School, Class of 1943, as valedictorian. After raising her family, Opal began her professional career in 1963 at Duphram Farms, Washburn and then worked as patient account manager for 23 years at The Aroostook Medical Center, Presque Isle. As an honored member of the Maine Association Accounts Managers, she traveled the state conducting seminars. Opal was a cancer survivor and dedicated supporter with the Reach to Recovery Program. Working in her extraordinary perennial gardens was a lifelong passion. Opal loved attending church and serving God. Opal married her husband, Gordon, August of 1943 and they were married for 64 years. She was a wonderful loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend to anyone who ever met her. She was known by all for her beautiful smile. Wherever she went people always complimented her beauty. Opal was predeceased by her husband, Gordon in 2008. She is survived by her four children, LaDene Monegan and her husband, Dale, of West Suffield, Conn., Lorraine and her husband, Glen, of Holden, Paul and his wife, Gloria, of The Villages, Fla., and Brent and his wife, Diane, of Windham. She also leaves her grandchildren, Janine Tremble, Eric Tarr, Derek Monegan, Nicole Keating, Julie Hill, Chad Everett and Jason Bernard Everett-Lyons; and stepgrandsons, Kory and Ken Dahme. She was predeceased by her grandson, Jason Paul Everett in 2000. She also leaves her darling great-grandchildren, Kaileigh and Taylor Tremble, Emily and Caleb Tarr, Ellen, Sam and Sophie Hill, Taylor and Brooke Everett, Lauren and Lindsay Monegan, Megan Keating and baby Keating to be born later this month; great-stepgrandchildren, Cathrine Everett, Kennedy and Kamryn Dahme, and Kendrick Dahme. She also leaves her sisters, Eunice Carmen and Brenda Allen; and her brother, Calvin Borden. A special thanks to her guardian angels, Andra and Shawna for their loving care and also thanks to New Hope Hospice, especially Marie and Carrie. A service of remembrance honoring Opal’s life will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, May 9, at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments immediately after the service at Brookings-Smith Family Rooms, 55 South Main St., Brewer.
