WINTERVILLE PLANTATION – Roland J. Tardie, 72, passed away peacefully in his sleep, approximately 4 a.m. Thursday, May 14, 2009, after a long bout with throat cancer. He was born Oct. 16, 1936, in Winterville, the son of Alcide and Aurore (Michaud) Tardie of Winterville. He graduated from Fort Kent High School and served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He worked for the State Highway Department, Pinkham Lumber, North Maine Woods and was self-employed for 13 years. He also did small engine repairs, was a Maine guide and a fire warden for many years. He married Lila (Vaillancourt) Tardie in 1959 and they were married for 50 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, making jigsaw puzzles, but most of all using his red tractor around the house. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 176, Eagle Lake, for many years. He was predeceased by his father, Alcide; his mother, Aurore; two sisters, Evangaline and Laurel; and two brothers, Rosaire and Peter Fernand. Surviving family members are his beloved wife, Lila Tardie of Winterville; brother and wife, Lionel and Lorette of Winterville; three sons, Gary and his partner, Kim, of Gardner, Mark and his wife, Jan, of Georgia and Richard “Rick” of Winterville; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, several cousins, nieces, nephews and numerous special friends. There will be no viewing as per Roland’s wishes. A military funeral will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, May 23, at St. Marys Church, Eagle Lake. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Edgar Paradis Cancer Fund, Fort Kent, or at the organization office.
