MILLINOCKET – Lurene E. McAvoy, 71, died Wednesday, May 20, 2009, at her home. She was born Aug. 6, 1937, in Norridgewock, and was adopted by Donald and Etta Patchell when she was three days old. Lurene graduated from Stearns High School, Class of 1955. She worked many years at Great Northern Paper Co., as a buyer in the purchasing department. She loved spending summers at camp. After retirement she enjoyed spending winters in Florida, until she realized too many old people lived there. To her, there was no place like Millinocket. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, William “Bill” McAvoy; her only child, Danny and partner, Roberta Oakes; two brothers-in-law, Robert McAvoy and William Boynton; several nieces and nephews; Heather Murphy, who was like a granddaughter; and her dog, Charlie. Graveside services for Lurene will be held noon Saturday, May 23, at Millinocket Cemetery. Gifts in memory of Lurene may be sent to Katahdin Area Support Group, 10 Field St., Millinocket, ME 04462.
