BANGOR – Mary Elizabeth (Blake) Millett, 87, wife of the late Edward Millett Jr., died May 24, 2009, after a short illness at a local health care facility. She was born Sept. 25, 1921, in Bangor, daughter of Lyman and Edith (Lynott) Blake. Mary was a graduate of John Bapst High School and Regis College. Her first employment was with the State of Maine for health and welfare, where she worked in Bangor and Houlton. Later she was employed by Bangor and Aroostook Railroad, where she worked until her marriage to Edward Millett. After raising three children, Mary accepted a job at Eastern Maine Medical Center, where she was always proud of being their first Social Worker and worked at this job she loved for 18 years. She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church. Mary loved to travel, card games, a good political argument and dinner out. She appreciated her many friends at Ellen Leach Home. She is survived by two sons, Frank and his wife, Sandra Hobbs Millett, of Spruce Head, and Robert and his wife, Teresa Millett, of Bangor; three granddaughters, Julie and her husband, Jon Glidden, Kimberly and her husband, Cliff Peterson, and Michele and her husband, Drew Connors; great-grandchildren, Timothy and Maria Glidden, Arianna, Bailey and Dawson Peterson, Emily and Logan Connors; nieces and nephew, Edith, Ruth and John Nelligan. She was predeceased by her son, Timothy and his wife, Gloria; and her sister, Eleanor Nelligan. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. Friends may call 10 a.m. until the time of the service Wednesday. Interment will be at Mount Pleasant Catholic Cemetery, Bangor. Relatives and friends are invited to share conversation and refreshments immediately after the interment at Brookings-Smith. Family Center, 163 Center St., Bangor.
