MILLINOCKET – John P. Ennis, 85, died Friday, June 26, 2009, at Millinocket Regional Hospital after a short battle with cancer. He was born Dec. 29, 1923, in Millinocket. John graduated from Stearns High School, Class of 1941, leaving soon after for the U.S. Navy, where he served honorably for three and one half years in the South Pacific during World War II. John worked at Great Northern Paper Co., for 42 years in the pipe and steam-fitting department, retiring in 1985. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, LaVerne Zemens Ennis; a daughter, Helen “Pug” Ennis; a grandson, Scott Danie; a great-grandson, Scott Danie II; a granddaughter, Jennifer Lucero and her husband, Chief Petty Officer Chris Lucero, and their children, Brianna, Dylan and twins, Jonathan and Abigail, all of San Diego; a nephew, Gary Ennis of Winterport; and two special nieces, Toni Bellantoni and Lisa Pratt of Massachusetts. In keeping with John’s wishes, there will be no visitation or public funeral services. Private burial will be at the convenience of the family.
