CARIBOU – Edward A. Wing, 86, died June 25, 2009, in Frenchville. He was born Oct. 26, 1923, in Mars Hill, son of the late Ralph and Mabel (Sherman) Wing. Mr. Wing attended Presque Isle schools and during World War II was employed at Portland Shipyard making Liberty ships. On Jan. 30, 1943, he married Elizabeth Page. Mr. Wing was a longtime employee of Bangor and Aroostook Railroad. He began his career at the railroad as a section laborer, was promoted to section foreman and retired 38 years later as the track inspection patrolman. Edward was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. It was very important to him to spend time with his family in the outdoors, teaching them to hunt and fish, and enjoy nature. Surviving, in addition to his wife of more than 66 years, Elizabeth of Caribou, are his three sons, Richard Wing and his wife, Lois, of Caribou, Ronald Wing of Presque Isle, and Randy Wing and his fiancee, Bridget Benson, of St. Albans; one brother, Harold Wing of East Hartford, Conn.; 11 grandchildren, Irene Wilcox and her husband, Andy, Deborah Smith and her husband, Gregg, Richard Wing II and his wife, Stephanie, Adriana, Travis, Stacey, Roxanne, Troy, Melissa, Wendy and Brooke Ann Wing; 22 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Mr. Wing was predeceased by a brother, Irving. The family extends a special thank you to St. Joseph Nursing Home, Frenchville, for the fine and outstanding care that they gave to our dad and the time they shared together. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Monday at Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 30, with the Rev. John Kiehn, pastor of Caribou United Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
