Two Bucksport men face multiple charges after Brewer police caught them early Sunday morning driving off with goods stolen from a High Street residence.

Gerry V. Bubar, 50, and Matthew Marc Williams, 24, who live on Bucksmill Road, were charged with theft and burglary, Brewer police Cpl. Levi Sewall said Monday.

In addition, Bubar was charged with drunken driving and Williams was charged with criminal mischief, Sewall said.

According to police reports, the episode began shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday, when Sewall, Sgt. David Lord and Officer Jeff Gotreau received a report of a burglary in progress from tenants of a High Street apartment building.

The tenants told police two men had broken into an apartment below theirs and were taking things, Sewall said. The tenants provided a description of the suspects’ vehicle, a red pickup truck, as well as the license plate number. Sewall said police intercepted the pickup as it left the South Main Street exit of Interstate 395.

When police pulled the truck over, they found inside a flat-screen television and a laptop computer taken from the apartment. The items were returned to their owners, Sewall said.

The OUI charge came after police determined Bubar had been drinking, he said. Officers charged Williams with criminal mischief because witnesses said that after being confronted by a tenant in the driveway he had thrown on the ground another computer the two apparently planned to steal.

Sewall said both suspects were taken to Penobscot County Jail and that both have since been released on bail. (Dawn Gagnon, BDN)

A 34-year-old Levant man was arrested on several charges Saturday night after what began as a routine traffic stop.

Bangor police Officer Richard Polk initially pulled Scott Allen McLeod over on Bolling Drive because a license plate light was out on his vehicle, Sgt. Bob Bishop said Monday night.

McLeod initially claimed he couldn’t produce his driver’s license because he’d left his wallet home. After dispatchers were unable to find a record of a valid license under the name and birth date McLeod provided, the suspect was identified through photographs.

As it turned out, McLeod’s license was revoked because he had been deemed a habitual offender of the state motor vehicle laws, Bishop said.

In addition, the name McLeod gave police was that of his brother who had an outstanding warrant. He has been released on bail. (Dawn Gagnon, BDN)

A Searsport woman and a Waldo man were arrested Sunday night after passers-by reported to police that they were fighting near the entrance of Eastern Maine Community College on Hogan Road.

When Bangor police Officers Richard Polk, Chris Blanchard and Mike Jewett arrived, they determined that Clover Elaine Vega, 24, had been driving her silver Audi while under the influence and charged her with criminal OUI, Bangor police Sgt. Bob Bishop said Monday.

The officers also determined that her license had been revoked because she had been deemed a habitual offender of Maine driving laws and charged her with aggravated operating a vehicle after habitual offender license revocation, Bishop said.

Also factors in her arrest were two outstanding warrants for failure to pay fines totaling $1,350, Bishop said.

The man she was fighting with, 62-year-old David Pattershall, fled into nearby woods about the time police arrived, Bishop said. Pattershall, whom police said also was intoxicated, was charged with disorderly conduct after threatening to do bodily harm to the three Bangor police officers, Bishop said.

Jail officials said Monday that Pattershall has been released on bail, but that Vega remained behind bars. (Dawn Gagnon, BDN)
