PLYMOUTH – Shirley V. Gray, 86, died July 6, 2009, at her Plymouth home after a short illness. She was born Feb. 14, 1923, in Troy, the daughter of Fred and Lena (Sargent) Myrick. She was educated in Troy schools. Shirley married Kelsey S. Gray, Nov. 26, 1939. He predeceased her Aug. 18, 1991, after almost 52 years of marriage. Shirley was employed as a spinner at several local woolen mills for many years. Shirley enjoyed doing arts and crafts. She loved watching “her” Red Sox. One of her favorite things was feeding and watching all the different birds from her living room window. She loved her cats and dogs. She is survived by two daughters, Elaine Bird and her companion, Chet Morse, of St. Albans, Laurel and her husband, Robert Burpee, of Plymouth; one brother and his wife, Dick, and Rosemary Myrick of Michigan; six grandchildren, Bill Bird, Laurie Bird, Carla Davis, Connie Campbell, Candace Massow and Jennifer Kelley; seven great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandaughter, several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Kelsey, she was predeceased by her son, Duane; and her granddaughter, Carole. Friends may call 4-6 p.m. Sunday, July 12, at Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Service Center, 34 High St., Newport. Private funeral services will be conducted at Sawyer Cemetery.
