CARMEL – Virginia I. Hilton, 76, passed away peacefully June 10, 2009, at home with her loving family by her side after a long, courageous battle with lung disease. She was born Sept. 12, 1933, in Levant, the daughter of Elmer and Evelyn (Leary) Call. She was a graduate of Bangor High School and lived most of her life in Kenduskeag, where she was predeceased by her husband, Walter E. Hilton. She settled in Carmel the last several years to be closer to her family. Virginia worked in the trucking industry as a secretary for many years starting at Fox & Ginn. Shortly after having two children, she spent her time enjoying her home and staying involved in activities. Virginia spent a few years as a member of Penobscot County Extension, while serving on the advisory board. Also she was secretary/ treasurer of Women’s Penobscot County Extension. She had been an active member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority for 17 years and still attended meetings when she could. Virginia took a lot of pride and joy in her vegetable and flower gardens. She also enjoyed sewing, crafts, knitting and camping. She was a jack-of-all-trades and was always willing to tackle anything that came her way. She was very generous with her time and always willing to help her family and friends. She is survived by two children, her daughter, Wanda Feeney and her husband, James, and her two grandchildren, Jacob and Jenna, all of Carmel, and her son, Jeffrey Hilton and wife, Carol and her two grandchildren, Tyler and Garrett, all of Charleston; two sisters, Violet Pease and husband, Allen of Hollis, Joyce Epstein of Tarriffville, Conn.; one brother, Normal Call of Levant; many nieces, nephews, great; -nieces and great-nephews along with some special friends; and her loving pet, Roxy, who was always by her side. She was predeceased by one sister, Geneveive (Call) Goodwin; and one brother-in-law, Gerold “Sonny” Epstein. Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service 1 p.m. Saturday, July 11, at Waugh Cemetery, Outer Union Street, Levant.
