BLUE HILL – Carolyn Joanne “Jo” (Peckenpaugh) Stevens McNeil, 79, died July 10, 2009, surrounded by those she loved. She was born May 9, 1930, in East Chicago, Ind., daughter of Zella and Earl Peckenpaugh. She received a Bachelor of Science degree and Master of Science degree from Indiana University, Bloomington, Ind. She also studied at Harvard University and University of Michigan. Jo held various positions in Girl Scout councils in Indiana, Pennsylvania, Washington state, Wisconsin, Michigan, Iowa, Illinois, Kansas and Alabama, and with Girl Scouts of the USA. She was an executive director of Abnaki Girl Scout Council from 1986 to 2002. She married John Stevens in 1957 and they divorced in 1977. She married Donald McNeil in 2002. She was predeceased by her parents; and first husband. She is survived by brothers, Robert Peckenpaugh and wife, Margaret, of Hinsdale, Ill., and James Peck and wife, Gloria, of Abbeville, La.; children, Victoria Keinert and husband, Fritz, of Ames, Iowa, and Jeffrey Stevens of Ann Arbor, Mich.; stepchildren, Donna, Bob and Ron; grandchildren, Thomas Keinert and Marcus Keinert of Ames, Iowa, and Lydia Stevens of Ann Arbor, Mich.; stepgrandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jo will be cremated. No funeral or memorial service will be held, but a possible family get-together to remember the good times may be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial funds may be made to World Foundation of World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, New York City, to be designated for Our Cabana, Cuernavaca, Mexico.
