MILLINOCKET – Edna McLean, 88, wife of the late Carleton (Curly) McLean, died July 17, 2009, at Millinocket Regional Hospital. She was born Oct. 17, 1920, in Upper Frenchville, daughter of James and Emelie (Ouellette) Plourd. Edna was very active and a charter member since 1946 in the Veterans’ of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and served as its president in 1951 and 1991. She was also a member of AARP, serving as its president in 1991. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Emblem Club and Katahdin Area Cancer Support Group. She worked at Reed’s Insurance Agency for 15 years and was the office manager for eight years. Edna is survived by her two daughters, Lynda Macalino of Millinocket and Mitzy Cattel and her husband, Charles, of Wethersfield, Conn.; and two sons, Donald R. McLean of Freeport and Stephen A. McLean and partner, Harry Bilder, of Downingtown, Pa. She leaves seven grandchildren, Debra Ackley and husband, Wayne, of Lisbon, Scott Macalino and his wife, Maria, of Lincoln, Billie Sullivan and her husband, Bill, of Topsham, Whitney McLean of Mexico, Maine, D. J. McLean of Freeport, Adam Cattel and Marissa Cattel of Wethersfield, Conn. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Kristen Ackley, Desiree and Danielle Macalino, and Cheyenne and Jennifer Sullivan. She was predeceased by four brothers, six sisters; her son-in-law, Larry Macalino; and daughter-in-law, Tomie McLean. Friends are invited to visit with the family 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 2 p.m. Monday, July 20, at St. Martin of Tours, 19 Colby St., Millinocket, with the Rev. Joel Cyr, pastor, presider.
