ABLESPRINGS, Texas – Leona Boyle passed away July 27, 2009, with her loving daughters by her side. Leona was born Dec. 3, 1935, in Alton, the daughter of the late George W. and Verlie L. (Hamilton) Wilbur. Leona was predeceased by her loving sister, Thelma St. Peter; and two brothers, Ronald and Michael Wilber of Connecticut. She is survived by one sister, Charlotte Spoul of Connecticut. Leona fought a very long and courageous battle against lung cancer and will be sadly missed by her children who all gave their loving support and hope, Marty and Meg Boyle of Kenndale, Texas, George Boyle of Eddington, Cindy and Daniel Bonifas of Jacksonville, N.C., Roxanne and James Veney of Dallas, and Rosanne Boyle-Theriault of Brewer. Leona loved her 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Leona had a longtime friend, Diela Trimm; three sisters-in-law, Annie Wood, Mary Robertson and Bernice Libby; and a longtime friend, Mary Malone of Texas. Leona was married to Martin A. Boyle Sr., in 1952. She worked at Bangor Mental Health Institute and later became a registered nurse. Martin retired from A.J. Cole and Sons. Our mother had a zest for life, and fully enjoyed it. Growing up in Old Town, she had many happy memories swimming in the river and biking. Later, she enjoyed dances, knitting, reading and many camping trips with a special friend, Bobby. Leona spent many hours planting and creating her own Garden of Eden. She grew hundreds of roses, fruit trees and vegetable gardens. She bought her dream retirement home in the country where she loved her dog, Shelby; and Miss Kitty. Our mother always said, “The happiest times of my life were spent at Chemo Pond.” All five of us feel blessed that it was ours too! A celebration of Leona’s life will be held for family and friends 3 p.m. Aug. 5 at the family’s cottage on Chemo Pond, Eddington. A remembrance service will be held this fall.
