NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Mary Barbara Gallagher Haskin, 88, passed away Wednesday, July 29, 2009. She was a native of Bangor, who was a resident of Newport News, Va., for more than 60 years. Mrs. Haskin was an avid bingo player who loved to dance and was a dance instructor during her younger years. She also loved to travel and her outgoing personality made her quick long-lasting friendships. She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. She was predeceased by her parents, James and Evangeline Gallagher; brother, Glynn Gallagher; and a daughter, Alexandra Marie Mayo Hill. Mrs. Haskin is survived by her husband of 45 years, Philip Noble Haskin; daughter, Evangeline Judith Mayo Monse and husband, Mark, of Chesapeake, Va.; two sons, Samuel N. Mayo III and wife, Gail, of Newport News, Va., and Glynn Gallant Mayo of Fredericksburg, Va.; and three grandchildren, Capt. Owen Gallagher Mayo, U.S. Army, Alexander Paul Mayo and Philip Nicholson Monse. The family received friends 3-5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, at Peninsula Funeral Home, where a service was held 5 p.m. Peninsula Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
