EAST MILLINOCKET – Marjorie (Wise) Freeman, 96, died Sunday, Aug. 2, 2009, at Katahdin Nursing Home, Millinocket. She was born June 23, 1913, in Houlton, the fifth child of James and Alma (Stevenson) Wise. Marjorie graduated from Houlton High School, Class of 1930. She worked in various stores in Houlton and at the Houlton Air Base during World War II. She married Merle Fairley in 1942. They moved to East Millinocket in 1957, where she worked at Fleet Bank for 14 years. After Merle’s death in 1963, Marjorie married Peter Freeman in 1969; they were married for 14 years when he passed away in 1983. She was past matron of the Fidelity Chapter of the Eastern Star and past noble grand of Portia Rebekah Lodge No. 78. Her major hobbies were hooking rugs, some of which included Masonic emblems, knitting afghans, now owned and treasured by family members, and reading. She was an enthusiastic supporter of the Boston Celtics for many years. Marjorie is survived by a stepsister-in-law, Anna Freeman of Falmouth, Mass.; and by many nieces and nephews, including Jean Koykka and her husband, Arthur, of Lunenburg, Mass., James Richardson of Columbia, S.C., and Diane Robbins and her husband, Richard, of Quincy, Mass.; many great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to her parents and her husbands, she was predeceased by brothers, Arthur and Clyde Wise; and by a sister, Dorothy (Wise) Richardson of Weymouth, Mass. Friends are invited to visit with the family 10:30-11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5, at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 40 Highland Ave., Millinocket, with a Mass of Christian burial being celebrated at 11 a.m. presided by the Rev. Bob Ficks, pastor. Graveside committal services will be held 2:30 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery, Houlton. Gifts in memory of Marjorie may be sent to St. Andrews Episcopal Church, P.O.
