HERMON – Theodore Roosevelt McLeod Sr., died unexpectedly Aug. 2, 2009, at his home. He was born Aug. 15, 1931, in Bar Harbor, the son of Ralph Augustine McLeod and Freda (Watson) Campbell. Ted attended Bangor schools. He was a veteran of the Korean War. He was a past member of American Legion Post, Hermon. He was also past noble grand of Triumph Lodge No. 119, Hermon. Ted was a well-known Hermon businessman throughout his life. Upon returning to Maine from the Army, he worked for Maine Central Railroad. In 1961 he started the original Hermon Motor Co., located at Hermon Corner. Ted became a well driller in 1963 starting up Ted McLeod Water Wells, Hermon, and drilled throughout the state of Maine. Later on with his wife, Kay, he started KSM Machinery. He was active in town affairs from being a code enforcement officer for the town of Hermon and on the Hermon School Board as well. He loved a good joke and had a great sense of humor. Ted enjoyed life to the fullest from dancing on Friday nights with the sounds of Woody Woodman to playing cards with fellow members of the lodge. He and Kay traveled the islands together, fished together at their camps and spent many wonderful times with their dear friends, Harold and Cathy Smith and Dick and Van Burnett. Ted was predeceased by his wives, Delores (Jessen) McLeod in 1969 and Kay (Dean) McLeod in 1998. Ted will be missed deeply by his children, Freda “Peggy” Malloch of Hermon, Ted McLeod Jr. and his wife, Diane McLeod, of Hermon, Doretta Callahan of Frankfort, and Valerie McLeod of Orland. He is also survived and greatly missed by his grandchildren, Ryan Stevenson and his girlfriend, Tracy St. John, of Bangor, Gary Whittington, T.R. McLeod III and his wife, Sarah McLeod, of Hermon, Marissa McLeod Ball and her husband, Andrew Ball Sr., of Hermon, Zachary and Matthew Callahan of Frankfort; and his great-grandchildren, Cole and Gage Stevenson of Topsham and Brooklyn and A.J. Ball, both of Hermon. He will also be deeply missed by his dear friend, Sandra Daley of Winter Harbor. A funeral service will be held noon Friday, Aug. 7, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with Philip William Robinson officiating. Relatives and friends may call 10 a.m. until the time of service Friday. Interment will be at Snow’s Corner Cemetery, Hermon, after the service.
