BUCKSPORT and BRUNSWICK – Lillian Arlene Burpee Mulligan passed away peacefully Aug. 5, 2009, with her family by her side. She was born March 6, 1915, the daughter of Arthur and Marion Blethen Burpee. Arlene loved being with her family and friends, playing bingo and going to church. She is survived by her only son, Joseph A. Mulligan and his wife, Cheryl M. Mulligan and two daughters, Elizabeth and Shelby, of Harpswell; stepson, Leonard C. Mulligan of Bath; two grandsons, Mark Mulligan of West Gardiner and his son, Tanner, and Michael Mulligan of Brunswick; four sisters, Florence K. Baker of Little Deer Isle, Thurline McAllain and her husband, James, of Bucksport, Charlotte LaSage and her husband, James, of Bucksport, and Sylvia Tweedie and her husband, Chet, of Toddy Pond, Orland; and one sister-in-law and best friend, Dee Burpee of Brewer. Arlene was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Leonard J. Mulligan; four brothers and three sisters. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 10, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Franklin Street, Bucksport, with Father Scott Mower, celebrant. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Arlene’s memory may be made to Bucksport Senior Center, P.O. Box 200, Bucksport, ME 04416. Arrangements are under the direction of Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 28 Elm St., Bucksport.
