ELLSWORTH – George A. Hindes, 94, died Thursday, Aug. 6, 2009, at an Ellsworth nursing home. He was born June 12, 1915, in Pittsburgh, to Harry and Edna Mae (McElheny) Hindes. He was a World War II Army veteran and also worked for the Department of Defense as a purchasing agent in the naval supply depot in Pennsylvania. George was an avid reader of Perry Mason novels and also enjoyed working on crossword puzzles. He was very supportive of his family. He is survived by his very special son, Robert Hindes of Ellsworth; two daughters, Mary Ann Lenton of Philadelphia and Amy Inman of Maine; and six grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Phyllis; and son, Raymond. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12, at Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, Ellsworth, with Pastor Steven Sobel officiating.
