PRESQUE ISLE – Larry C. Allen, 61, passed away Aug. 11, 2009. He was the son of the late Rellon and Sadie T. (Coty) Allen. He served in the U.S. Army, farmed, and was self-employed as a woodsman, general contractor, certified arborist, skilled craftsman and inventor. He will also be remembered for the Ward Log buildings and homes he built around the County. For many years he was involved with the Northern Maine Fair and served as superintendent of the Draft Horse Pulls, most notably George Allen Memorial Pulls. Most recently he served as trailmaster of Presque Isle Snowmobile Club, and was planning to construct its new clubhouse. Larry always had many projects underway but when he wasn’t working, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends, fishing, shooting and going to camp. Larry is survived by his wife of 35 years, Joyce (Larsson) Allen of Presque Isle; daughters, Ingrid and Andrea Allen of Presque Isle and Amanda (Allen) and her husband, Chris Pelkey, of Livermore Falls; cherished grandchildren, Astrid Newton and Cohen Pelkey; sisters, Dorothy and Loretta “Cookie” Allen, and Annabelle “Nan” (Allen) and her husband, Phillip McGlauflin, all of Presque Isle; sister-in-law, Charlotte (Lovley) Allen of Easton; brothers, Rellon “Sonny” and his wife, Jacquelin (Beaulieu) Allen, of Chapman, Kenneth and his wife, Carol (Boutot) Allen, and special brother, P. John Powers of Presque Isle; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Frederick and Ellen (Larsson) Lunt of Clinton; sister-in-law, Norma Larsson and her partner, Robert Sezak, of Fairfield; as well as several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He also leaves several close friends including Dr. Hank Ford. He was predeceased by his brothers, George and Robert; and sister, Patricia Allen. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle, with the Rev. Clement Thibodeau officiating. A reception will be immediately after the service in the gathering area of the funeral home.
