GUILFORD – Maude P. Smith, 90, died peacefully Aug. 16, 2009, surrounded by her loving family, at home. She was born Sept. 24, 1918, in Willimantic, the daughter of Harry M. and Effie M. (Judkins) Prescott. Maude’s mother died of tuberculosis shortly after Maude’s birth, so she was raised by Leslie and Affie Knowles. Special thanks to her caregivers, Betty Mills, Velvet Bennett, Janet Austin and Jackie Moody-Reynolds, without whose help Maude would not have been able to remain at home. Thanks also to Nancy Casalla and Community Health and Counseling Services Hospice. Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18, at Crosby & Neal, 21 Oak St., Guilford. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, at Guilford United Methodist Church, School Street, Guilford. Committal services will be afterward at Riverside Cemetery, Willimantic.
