CASWELL – Melanie A. Berube, 92, died Aug. 15, 2009, at a Van Buren health care facility. She was born June 26, 1917, in Caswell, the daughter of Ludger and Alice (Sirois) Berube. Melanie lived on the family farm up until a few years ago. Though she never married or had any children of her own, most of her life was dedicated to caring for her family as she tended to her aging parents, her brother and a sister. She was an avid reader and loved to garden. Due to declining health, she had been a resident at Borderview Nursing Home, Van Buren, for the past six years. She is survived by one niece, Lorena King and her husband, Rene, of Ellsworth; one great-niece, Renee LaCasse of husband, Joey, of Trenton; and one great-great-nephew, Gus LaCasse of Trenton. She will also be missed by a special friend, Carole Leeman of Caswell. She was predeceased by two brothers, Leo Berube and Lewis Berube; and two sisters, Meda Deschaine and Isabelle Berube. There will be no calling hours. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hamlin, with Father David Cote, celebrant.
