STOCKTON SPRINGS – Janet M. FitzGerald, 78, died peacefully Aug. 21, 2009, at her residence. She was born April 7, 1931, in Jamaica Plain, Mass., daughter of Dr. Peter and Mary (Anderson) Weiss. She worked for many years as a registered nurse. After her retirement she continued to help in her community volunteering her medical services. Janet enjoyed recording her family genealogy, cooking and doing banquets for her church. She volunteered many years in her home communities of Washington and Stockton Springs. She particularly enjoyed canning and cooking with her best friend, Marion Walsh. She was predeceased by two sons, Robert and Michael; and a sister, Betty Weiss. Janet is survived by her husband, whom she would have been married to for 56 years this November, Robert E. FitzGerald of Stockton Springs; two daughters, Mary Imondi and her husband, Steven, of Frankfort and Miriam FitzGerald of Searsport; five sons, Steven and his wife, Kathleen FitzGerald, of Stockton Springs, Edward and Sharon FitzGerald of Massachusetts, Sean and Caroline FitzGerald of Rhode Island, Gerard and Susan FitzGerald of Windsor and Joseph and Sara FitzGerald of California; two brothers, Peter F. Weiss and John Weiss, both of Massachusetts; 22 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A memorial Mass will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 24, at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church, Winterport, with Father Seamus Griesbach officiating.
