LEWISTON – Rita L. Jean, 87, wife of the late Robert L. Jean, died Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009, at d’Youville Pavilion, Lewiston, where she had been a resident for the past five years. Born April 1, 1921, in Auburn, she was the daughter of Zenon and Lycia Guay Turcotte. Educated in local schools, including Acme Business School, she married Robert L. Jean, Aug. 7, 1950. Mr. Jean passed away in 1994. A member of Holy Family Parish, she was a proud homemaker, and cherished time spent with her daughter and grandchildren. Before her engagement to Robert, she had been employed in the cotton department at Senter’s for many years. In addition to her job at the store, Rita accompanied the choir on the organ at St. Louis Church, Auburn. With the outbreak of World War II, she volunteered for the Red Cross Motors Corps and corresponded with many soldiers throughout the duration of the war. Rita enjoyed skiing and traveling. Briefly after their marriage, Robert was called to duty in Washington, D.C., during the Korean War, and they were residents of the city for a year. Throughout that time, they visited a new section of the Smithsonian every week. Rita is survived by her daughter, Therese Inman of Millinocket; and three grandchildren, Jason R. Inman of Portland, Jennifer and husband, Dallas Towle, of Bucksport, and Kristen Inman of Millinocket. Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Albert & Burpee Funeral Home, 253 Pine St., Lewiston. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Holy Family Church, Lewiston.
