BANGOR – Harold Byron White went home to be with the Lord Aug. 26, 2009, at a Bangor health care facility, where he had lived for two and one half years. Born Dec. 10, 1911, in Crystal, he was the son of Miles and Ida (Landers) White of Cambridge and Bangor. Harold was predeceased by both parents; two brothers and their wives, Cecil C. White and Doris Kimball of Dexter, and Laurel and Audrey White of Pittsfield; one sister and her husband, Dorothy and Donald Rice of Stetson; his sister-in-law, Ruth White of Cambridge; two nieces and one nephew, who were children of Cecil and Doris; as well as two very special friends, Claire Corrigan and Goldie Cross. He is survived by his brother, Orie White of Cambridge; many nieces and nephews and their families; as well as one very special friend, Judi Caruso of Bangor. Harold served in the U.S. Army during World War II from April 1942 until February 1946, including the Battle of the Bulge. Proudly, he received a Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Bronze Service Star and World War II Victory Medal. After his time in the service, Harold worked at Eastern Maine Medical Center, Bangor, from 1948 until he suffered a heart attack followed by heart surgery, resulting in retirement in 1976. During his last week at the veterans’ home, Harold was often heard exclaiming, “I am a saved man!” Although saddened by his death, Sharon Sisson, his niece whom he was very close to, rejoiced knowing he is finally at peace. “It was always an honor knowing and loving him,” Sharon proudly stated. Funeral services for Harold B. White will be announced at a later date. Arrangements by Memorial Alternatives, 205 Center St., Bangor.
