HOLDEN – A special lady, Irene Jellison Adams died Aug. 26, 2009, at a Bangor health care facility, after a short illness. She was born July 21, 1926, in Bangor. Irene had a sad childhood, being raised by relatives until she was 8, then cared for by the families of friends while attending Bangor schools. At age 17, she moved to Washington, D.C., and worked for the government during World War II. After the war, she returned to Maine and married Jim Adams and together raised their family in Hampden. She loved life and all of her many blessings, such as shopping at TJ’s, “Blue Goose” dances, trips to the coast and dining out. She was lucky to have many friends, from lifelong childhood friendships to work associates that she adored, such as Jeannie Hammond. She loved her grandchildren and they loved their “Nana-Noonie.” She will forever live in all our memories as a joke-teller, a lover of music and our roadrunner “Renie.” Irene is survived by her son, Buddy Adams and wife, Rena; daughters, Lyn Hardy and her special friend, John McVey, and Dawn and husband, Steve Carey; and daughter-in-law, Judith Adams. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, James and Jayson Adams, Hayley Adams, Timothy Hardy, and Richard, Ryan, Thomas and Travis Carey. Irene was predeceased by her beloved eldest son, Jim in July 2000. Irene loved to spend time with her very special niece, Joan Rollins and her husband, Joe and their children, Joe B., Paige and Neal. She also leaves behind a best friend, Catherine Ericson, whose friendship and caring support during the years helped Mom stay at her home as long as possible. Irene was a mother, grandmother, aunt and a very dear friend; someone you will never forget or want to. Thanks for the love, laughter and wonderful memories we will carry with us forever. At Irene’s request, there will be no funeral service. There will be a family gathering noon Sunday, Aug. 30, at 12 Schoolhouse Lane, Hampden. Gifts in her memory may be made to any animal shelter of your choice.
